The Trust must maintain a register of beneficiaries in accordance with its Trust Deed. Those who whakapapa to the eponymous ancestor, Rangitāne, or the tupuna, Pāpāuma, and whakapapa to Te Hika o Pāpāuma, are eligible to register with the Trust in accordance with the Trust Deed. Being a registered beneficiary also entitles you to vote on any Trust matters put to the iwi, stand for elections, and to to benefit from the settlement assets that will be held by the Trust (and/or its subsidiaries).

In addition to the above hapū, it is acknowledged that there are strong whakapapa connections between Rangitāne and Te Hika o Pāpāuma and, together with intermarriage and geographic proximity to each other, a special relationship has developed that remains in place today. As a result of those whakapapa connections and this relationship, those who whakapapa to the tupuna, Pāpāuma, and whakapapa to Te Hika o Pāpāuma are also eligible for registration with the Trust.

The Trust beneficiaries must align with the beneficiaries of the final Deed of Settlement. There is an ability under the Trust Deed for the relevant definitions to be amended by Trust resolution to match the Deed of Settlement. This ensures that all those who are to benefit from the settlement are entitled to through the Trust.
